Department of SD VFW Baseball Chairman, Danny Frisby-Griffin, released the results of the Program’s 5th Annual Youth Baseball Grant Program. Drawing upon set-aside funds and a generous donation from the Frisby-Griffin Family, VFW Baseball was able to provide a total of $1500 divided among the following two grant applications: the City of Turton ($1000) and the West Central Baseball Association ($500).
The grant program was created to help ensure youth across South Dakota have an opportunity to participate in baseball. In addition to the grant program, the Department of SD VFW Baseball also created a Youth Baseball Community of the Year Award (monetary), Friends of VFW Baseball, Veterans Program Donation and established a SD VFW Baseball University Scholarship.
The City of Turton plan on utilizing their funding to refurbishing their baseball facilities to support a large group of young players coming up. This includes building bleachers and repairing the fencing around the field as well as putting lime on the infield to get it back in playing shape. WCBA plans on using their funding to build portable pitching mound for their youth field.
“We take our goal of allowing any kid that wants to, play baseball very seriously. This is an awesome opportunity for the Department of SD VFW and their Baseball program to give back to the future leaders of our nation,“ said Frisby-Griffin. “And who knows, there may be a future major league player out there that just needed a bit of support to keep playing.”
