Three organizations receive 2020 Department of SD VFW Baseball Grants

Department of SD VFW Baseball Chairman, Danny Frisby-Griffin, released the results of the Program’s 3rd Annual Youth Baseball Grant Program. Drawing upon set-aside funds and a generous donation from the Frisby-Griffin Family, VFW Baseball was able to provide a total of $1500 divided among the following three grant applications: Chamberlain Baseball Association, Parker Rec/Parker Baseball Association and Canistota/Freeman 14U Baseball Team.

The grant program was created to help ensure youth across South Dakota have an opportunity to participate in baseball. In addition to the grant program, the Department of SD VFW Baseball also created a Youth Baseball Community of the Year Award (monetary), Friends of VFW Baseball and established a Veterans Program Donation process to allow VFW Baseball to donate to various VFW and Veterans programs and initiatives.

The Chamberlain Baseball Association plan on utilizing their funding to assist with the various tournaments being hosted in Chamberlain as well as field maintenance. Parker Rec/Parker Baseball Association are updating their baseball fields with new fencing, sprinklers and bleachers. Canistota/Freeman Baseball Association will be using the funding for new uniforms and equipment because it’s been a while since either city has had a “teener” team.

“We take our goal of allowing any kid that wants to, play baseball very serously. This is an awesome opportunity for the Department of SD VFW and their Baseball program to give back to the future leaders of our nation,“ said Frisby-Griffin. “And who knows, there may be a future major league player out there that just needed a bit of support to keep playing.”
