Classes
VFW Baseball Varsity AA Majors, AA Minors, A, and B classes will be determined by using the South
Dakota High School Athletic Associations enrollment figures as a guide. State Baseball officials
will set the enrollment figures for the four class system. (Read Rule #3, General Rules).
Eligibility
Competition is open to boys or girls who are 13, 14, 15, and 16 years of age. A boy or girl who has
reached his or her 17th birthday before May 1st of the current year is ineligible for the VFW Varsity
baseball program. A boy or girl who is under 13 years of age may play if permission is secured from
the regional commissioner prior to the time of play. His or her name must be on the state roster.
Team must be sanction according SD VFW Baseball Rules. (Eligibility Rule #5)
Team Entry Form, Entry Fee, and Team Roster Form
For a Varsity B, A and AA Minor or Major baseball team to be eligible for any tournament play they
must submit a $125.00 Entry Fee, plus an Entry Form and Team Roster form to VFW Department Headquarters,
3601 South Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57105 postmarked on or before June 10th. Checks to be
payable to: State of South Dakota VFW. Team roster forms must include the name of the player, complete
address of the player, name of school attended the last school year and date of birth. If this
information is incomplete, it can affect the eligibility of the player. You may list up to 25 players
per team. Team insurance is mandatory and a copy is required to be file with VFW Headquarters along
with your team entry form and roster.
Tournaments
All league and regional tournaments shall be either single or double elimination with the decision to be made by the coaches and regional commissioner involved. The A Varsity and B Varsity State Tournaments shall be single elimination. The AA Varsity Majors and Minors State Tournament format maybe pool play or single elimination to be determined by the regional commissioners. All registered teams must play in a qualifying regional tournament, except when pool play or a league format is being used. A state tournament consists of one team from each region, plus a host team from the host region for Class A Varsity and Class B Varsity State Tournaments. The Class AA Varsity State Tournaments consists of two classes Majors and Minors teams and will play a format determine by VFW baseball officials.
